Can't believe that September is here.......where has time gone my friends xx. Today I am sharing my make for the new challenge over at A Vintage Journey, which is "Altered Art"
The lovely Alison Bomber, aka "Butterfly" is our host this month and here is what Alison has to say about the challenge:
"We'd like you to get creative with recycled objects in a vintage; shabby, mixed media; art journalling; industrial, timeworn or steampunk style, . Turn something unloved and unwanted into a work of art. Try some repurposing - make something new out of something old, or incorporate an unwanted object into your artwork. Think tin cans and jars, old bottles, toothbrushes - the more inventive the better."
Our sponsor this month is Simon Says Stamp and you can view the details of their prize over on the AVJ blog HERE
I decided to alter a book box that I purchased quite a few years ago at Portobello Market, London.
You can see how the book looked prior to the alteration
The opening
Prior to painting masking tape was applied to prevent the paint from going on to the lovely faux gold pages.
The back, front and sides were then painted with Decoart Chalk Paint in Rustic, a delicious warm brown.
Then Decoart Chalk Paint in Lace was applied to the centre as I did not want the dark brown paint to be the background for my napkin. Decoart Crackle Medium was then applied to the book cover and left to dry.
Below you can see the gorgeous crackle when the Lace chalk paint was applied over the top of the crackle medium
Decoart Matte Varnish was applied to seal the crackle and prevent any future damage.
Distress Inks, namely Vintage Photo and Blue China, were applied all over the cover, with a heavier application around the edges.
Oxford Impressions Venezia Stamp Set provided the gorgeous mask and other stamped embellishments as seen below.
I also decided to use the remaining piece of napkin to create a matching candle.
The back of the book depicting more of the Oxford Impressions Venezia stamps.
Thank You so much for popping in today and I do hope you can join in with our fabulous challenge.
