It's my turn to host the second challenge over at ATP Exchange and the theme for this fortnight is 'Halloween'.
We are a Mixed Media Challenge and a very important rule is that you must also include stamping in your entries to be in with a chance of winning a £10 gift voucher to spend online at the Artist Trading Post Store.
Here is my project and I really had such a great time creating it as I just love these Decoart Paints and of course my Tim Holtz Distress Products and Dies.
The Recipe
First of all I took a picture frame to make a shadow box, painting it twice with Decoart Chalk Paint in Carbon. The background was also made with the same paint in Rustic and Whisper and I used the Decoart Crackle in between the layers of paint, ensuring they were properly dried. Vintage Photo and Faded Jeans Distress Inks were then applied over the paint and a layer of matte spray varnish was used to seal everything.
Tim Holtz Rickety House die by Sizzix was cut out using my Sizzix Bigshot and I used a combination of photos from Tim Holtz Laboratorie Paper Stash and rubber stamping using Tim's Stampers Anonymous Visual Artistry Stamp Set in the windows. They were all adhered with Cosmic Shimmer Acrylic Glue
I had some MDF Pumpkins and die cut a few more using Tim Holtz Movers & Shapers Mini Acorn and Pumpkin Set
The die cuts were all covered in Decoart One Step Crackle Finish and left for a couple of hours to dry before applying Black Soot Distress Ink, which I rubbed off leaving colour in the crackled areas.
They were then edged with the same Distress Ink to gain definition around the edges.
I then cut out Tim Holtz On the Edge Die- Townscape by Sizzix
I had some skeletons in my stash ( not my closet!!) and decided to take them apart, applying them to the frame using Ranger Glossy Accents. The word 'Halloween' was from Tim Holtz Seasonal Salvage Stickers
Below is the pumpkins before and after the Black Soot DI was applied and you can clearly see the definition :-)
I wanted to create layers of pumpkins/greenery in front of the house and decided to use Tim Holtz Layered Leaf Sizzix Die and Embossing Folder.
I also used some muslin cloth which was dyed using Mowed Lawn DI, smooshed on my mat and sprayed with water. ( sorry ..forgot to take a photo)
Here you can see how I layered up all the elements, creating further depth to the shadow box.
