Hi everyone.......today sees the start of a new challenge theme over at A Vintage Journey challenge blog. I am the host this month and have chosen "Vintage Christmas" as the theme.
I do hope you will be able to join in with us as there is the chance to win a £20 voucher from the lovely Susan at Country View Crafts, who is our regular sponsor. The Creative Guides choose three Pin Worthy projects too, with a badge available for your blog and the chance to debut as a Guest Creative Guide.
We are a Tim Holtz inspired challenge, but that does not mean that you have to use all of his products, in fact you will see that my own project uses a variety of items, which are not all promoted by Tim.
For this challenge you can use your dies, stamps, rub ons, embellishments, ephemera- anything you choose to create a Vintage Christmas card, home decor piece, altered art or gift for someone special.
This is quite a picture heavy post so be warned !! you might want to grab a cuppa........I certainly had a few cups of coffee whilst writing !! xx
The box frame below is made of card. I don't know where the box came from as it was purchased from my fellow teamie, Tracy Evans, who was selling it within her Craft De-Clutter Group on Facebook.
The front of the frame was suitably altered with a white and grey aged look. The inside was white and so I painted it all, even the shadow frame, with Decoart Chalk Paint in Whisper.
A Christmas napkin from my stash was torn and adhered to the back of the shadow box with Ranger Multi-Medium.
Taking Tim Holtz Snowflake Stencil I applied Prima Snowflake Paste, which once dry, gives off a lovely glistening effect.
Whilst the paint and paste were drying I cut some dies using my Sizzix Big Shot. You can see Tim Holtz Poinsettia Bigz die below and some of the tools from Susan Tierney Cockburn's Garden set that I used to shape it. My lovely teamie, Jennie, has made the most gorgeous flower using Tim's poinsettia die....to view it click HERE
For the interior I took some of Tim Holtz Festive Paper Stash as I wanted wallpaper effect. I then took a piece of red card, cut it to fit inside the shadow part, then die cut it with Tim Holtz Doilly die.
Some die cut snowflakes were adhered with glue and then covered in Ranger Glitter, its a shame that you cannot see the glitter and sparkle within my photographs.............it's really so festive.
Once the Snowflake paste dried I decided to add some Decoart Snowtex creating some extra texture, whilst adding to the overall Christmas feeling.
Once I was satisfied with the amount of snow applied I sprinkled some Ranger Glitter, creating that cold and crisp appeal. The Snow Tex takes a few hours to dry, depending on the thickness applied, so be aware of that if you are needing something in a hurry.
Tim Holtz Thinlit Die - Holiday Greens were cut then inked with Vintage Photo to age them and make them look more realistic in colour.
The poinsettia was also edged with Vintage Photo, which darkened the red of the card. Star Dust Stickles were then applied to the edges and centre.............lots more sparkle to dance in the evening lamp light!!
I absolutely love this die cut Noel, which is another Bigz Die by Tim Holtz. Once die cut I applied glue and Ranger Glitter. Once dry I edged some areas with Vintage Photo DI.
Tim Holtz Flagpole and Lantern Framelits die was used to make some bunting, which was adhered to Bakers Twine
I also applied some Decoart Snow Tex around the base of the tree, child and Carollers, which are from Tim Holtz Carollers Die for Sizzix. The child is an Idea-Ology doll.
Tim Holtz Victorian Carollers were layered up using some foam and a folded piece of card to which the female Caroller was adhered. This created some space between her and the fiddle playing Caroller.
Some ribbon from my stash and some of the glistening snowflakes decorate the edges.
One of Tim Holtz Christmas trees was decorated with some festive lights from my stash and an Idea-ology star was placed at the top.
A little vintage Rocking Horse was adhered and just finished off the look as did an application of Treasure Gold wax, highlighting all edges.
You can see how the Poinsettia and foliage come together below, just finishing off my Home Decor piece.
Thank You so much for sticking with me and I hope the step by step has been helpful or maybe even provided an introduction to some new products x
