Dies & Distress at A Vintage Journey

It's lovely to see you here again and I hope you are enjoying the fabulous inspiration over on the blog at A Vintage Journey. The Creative Guides have produced the most amazing projects and I am so thrilled to be here with this challenge theme, which is 'Dies and Distress'.
As mentioned previously, although we are a Tim Holtz inspired challenge you do not have to use Tim Holtz products to enter, you just have to ensure that the style is vintage, grunge, retro or shabby chic and you inform which of Tim's styles/techniques or products have inspired you.

Our regular sponsor is Country View Crafts and the challenge Winner will receive a gift voucher to spend in their online store. We also have  a Pinworthy Badge for the Top 3 projects.

I recently purchased one of Tim's blank Burlap Panel's and decided to challenge myself to alter it.
You can see the finished project below, but I shall provide some  other photographs/details as to how I achieved it.

First of all I brushed some Multi Medium over the burlap and adhered various items on to the surface as I wasn't quite sure where I was going but wanted texture and depth.
Once dry I applied Distress Paints over the surface, changing the colours several times until I was  satisfied with the look I wanted.
( I used Broken China Distress Paint, followed by a spritz of Dylusions in Melted Chocolate for a grungy look) Another recent purchase was Tim Holtz New Sizzix Die, Artful Arrows, which were blended with Rusty Hinge Distress ink. Some treasure gold wax was applied to the textured elements.
I then die cut my all time favourite  TH Sizzix dies, the Weathered Clock, Layered Wings and Umbrella Man. Once again I blended Rusty Hinge and Broken China Distress Ink around the wc die. The wings were inked with Vintage Photo and the umbrella man was inked in Vintage Photo Distress Stains, his umbrella in Antique Bronze Distress Stain. I then applied Salty Ocean Distress Ink to the Umbrella Man using Tim's Schoolhouse and Bubble Stencil. Some of Tim's Idea-Ology was attached to this projects using Tim's Idea-Ology Ring fasteners. Alcohol Inks were blended on to the metal numerals and finally some Chit Chat Stickers.
I had such a great time making this and I hope you have fun with the challenge too. ( click HERE to go to the AVJ blog)

Thank You for visiting and I look forward to catching up with you

  13. Fabulous texture on the burlap background and I love the layered die-cuts over the top. The orange arrows are really zingy against the turquoises and I love the tinting on those metallic numbers. Great challenge theme - and a fantastic piece of inspiration.
